Our Archive

Gado Images maintains our own wholly-owned archive and actively acquires new materials that may be of interest to our clients. Our particular strength is vernacular imagery from the 20th century, including family photos, news photos, postcards, and publicity stills.

Gado Images Footage acquires and digitizes unique 8 mm and 16 mm films with a focus on found footage, family films, and other films documenting everyday life.

Gado Images staff is available to assist with research requests and to locate imagery in our physical archives which is not yet available online.

Gado Images actively acquires new artifacts which may be of interest to our clients. We maintain an active network of dealers, and acquire everything from individual photographs to entire collections. Our particular interest is in rights-cleared newspaper collections, including negative collections, newspaper morgues, and the personal photo files of individual photojournalists.

Deep Folder Research

Gado Images’ own archive is about 70% digitized, with many items catalogued but not yet digitized and online for licensing. Additionally, for most of our materials, extensive background information and metadata (including information to assist with clearances for commercial uses) is available. In addition, Gado Images is often able to search across our dealer network and selectively acquire artifacts to meet customers’ needs.

If you are looking for a particular image or topic–or if you need more information about one of our images on Getty Images or another licensing marketplace–please feel free to reach out using the Contact Us page. A Gado Images researcher will be happy to help you.
